In the context of consumerism, liberty is not an abstract right to participate in public discourse or free speech.
소비자 중심주의라는 의미에서 보면, 자유는 대중과의 토론이나 자유 토론에 참여하는 추상적인 권리가 아니다.
It means expressing oneself and realizing personal pleasure in and through goods.

Prior to the establishment of “the coffee house” as an institution in
England, it was the custom of most inns to give the best seats in the
house (near the fire) to the wealthiest customers. If a wealthy person
or party entered, current customers would be bumped from their table at
a moment's notice. The English coffee house began a new tradition: one
took the best seat available, and no one could move you once you were
seated. Furthermore, as long as discourse was conducted in a civil
fashion, any topic could be discussed: art, sex, religion, politics,
nothing was considered taboo.

위의 단어들을 우리말로 풀이하면 모두 "말하다"가 되지만 약간씩 다른 상황에서 다르게 사용되고 있습니다.
(1) speak : 사회적 활동으로서 [말하다] (일반적인 말).
(2) talk : 흔히 스스럼없는 일상회화를 말함 (계속해서 say 함을 암시하며 speak보다 구어적인 말).
(3) converse : 생각, 지식 따위를 교환하려고 둘 또는 그 이상의 사람이 대화하다(격식을 차리는 말).
(4) discourse : 상세하고 넓은 범위의 이야기를 하다(다소 격식을 차리는 말).
(5) say : 자기 생각을 말로 표현하다; (tell이 말의 취지를 전하는데 반하여) 말을 그대로 전하다(일반적인 말).
(6) state : 이유를 들어 상세히 말하다(say에 대한 문어적인 말).
(7) remark : 생각한 대로 간단하고 적절하게 말하다[논평하다].
