Advised about the miserable situation of pandas who have been driven out of their homes, thousands of people will contribute money to save the pandas' natural habitat.
Similarly, “Save the whale” campaigns have been in progress for years, and millions of dollars have been spent to help hunted whales.
Currently, in many areas, bats are endangered, but don't expect a campaign to save them from extinction.
Bats just don't have the appeal of whales and pandas.
Most people are so repulsed by bats that wildlife organizations have been reluctant to encourage a campaign to help them; they are convinced that no one would be interested.

The biological sonar, or echolocation, of bats and a number fo other animals
is one of nature's great ingenuities. As a means of perceiving the environment
by bouncing high-frequency sounds off objects, it interests scientists in many
disciplines. Echolocation serves the bat as a substitute for vision in the
perception of near and moderately near objects.

Bats can examine the characteristics of objects-size, shape, distance,
direction, and motion-by sensing the way the objects modify the sonar
signals reflected back to the bat.

The sounds emitted by bats for echolocation differ according to the species and
the situation, so that it is not usually possible to specify a single,
particular signal as the chracteristic orientation sound of a given species.
Neverthless, enough useful generations arise from the data now available, if
preliminary, view of the operation of bat echolocation systems.

space vehicles-most of their skeletons, their skins, even the rivets that bind
them together.

Pete was being interviewed in spring training the year he was about to break Ty Cobb’s hits record.
One reporter asked him, “Pete, you only need 78 hits to break the record. How many at-bats do you think you’ll need to get the 78 hits?”
Without hesitation, he said, “78.”
The reporter yelled back, “Ah, come on, Pete, you don’t expect to get 78 hits in 78 at-bats, do you?”
Mr. Rose said, “Every time I step in the batter’s box, I expect to get a hit! It is a positive expectation that has gotten me all of the hits.”

Manufacturers of baseball bats may be forced to lay off
workers as they face a slump in production. The price of
baseball bats is making a quantum leap in response to the
surge in the price of the hardwood ash trees used to make
baseball bats. The problem arose because of the deforestation
of mountains where ash trees normally grow. Right now a
baseball bat made from ash wood costs about $100, but the
price is expected to double in the next six months and
quadruple within two years. Bat dealers and manufacturers are
bracing themselves for the inevitable consumer complaints.
·lay off 「일시 해고하다」 ·slump 「감퇴, 저하」 ·quantum
leap 「갑작스런 도약」 ·surge 「급격한 상승」 ·ash tree

When viruses in bat bodies are transmitted to humans and other organisms, they are deadly enough to threaten life.

During flight, the bat's body temperature rises above 40°C, preventing the virus from settling in.

Bats fly up to 350 km or more at night consuming a huge amount of energy, which makes them increase in basal metabolic rate and body temperature.

It is said that 70% of the bats eat insects, so if we eat many insects, will it increase our lifespan and immunity?

He explained that after collecting and analyzing bat feces from caves in Korea since 2015, a virus similar to MERS, which is known to have originated from camels, has been detected.

Another reason bats are resistant to viruses is their ability of long-distance flight.

Since bats live in dark, humid caves filled with pathogens, the virus can spread rapidly if even one of them is infected.

'have an edge on'이라는 표현이 있는데,이에는 '∼보다 더 우세하다'라는
A:I'm rooting for the LA Dodgers.
B:Do you think they will win this game?
A:I bet they'll make it this time. I think they have an edge on the
Yanks in pitching and batting.
B:It's a different matter,but I think you didn't fork over the money
you borrowed from me last week.
A:That's right. why?
B:Pay it back to me right now.
A:It seems like you're on the edge of beating up.
A:맞아.
