이 말들은 때로 서로 바꿔 쓰일 수 있다. 그러나 around는 무엇을 완전히 빙 둘러싸는 것을 의미하는데 비해 about과 round는 뚜렷하지 않고 다소 반원형으로 둘러싸는 것을 의미한다.

장면이 TV를 통해 전세계에 보도 되었는데 클린턴이 한 말
Hang in there라는 말은 글자 그대로 해석해 보면 '그 안에
매달려 있으라' 의역해 보면 '어려움을 참고 기다려라'가 되는
것이다. 같은 뜻으로 Hang on도 쓸 수 있고 Hang tough도 쓸
수 있다. 또 Tough it out이나 Stick it out도 역시
'어려움을 참고 기다려라'는 뜻으로 쓰인다.
hang on은 전화를 끊지 않고 '기다린다.'즉 hold on과 같은
뜻으로 쓰인다. hang around란 말도 있는데 이것은 stick around와
같이 '가지 않고 머물러 있다'는 뜻이다.
hang on to∼는 무엇을 버리지 않고 '그대로 고수한다'는 뜻.

국내시장의 제1차 거래단계에서 기업 상호간에 거래되는 commodities(상품)의
평균적인 price change(가격변동)를 측정하기 위해 작성되는 지수.
옛 이름인 'wholesale price index(도매물가지수)'에서의 'wholesale(도매)'의
의미는 wholesaler(도매상) 또는 대리점에서의 판매를 의미하는 것이 아니라
대량거래가 이루어지는 생산자 단계의 판매를 의미한다는 뜻이다.
따라서 지수작성에 사용되는 가격은 제1차 거래단계의 가격, 즉 domestic
