You remember from your history that Columbus went before Ferdinand and
Isabella of Spain to receive financial aid so that he might find a new
route to India to obtain more easily the spices that were in demand at
that time for preserving foods. Glass and porcelain were the only
containers used in preserving food until 1862, when Thomas Kimmett
secured a patent on the use of cans. The canning of foods has increased
so greatly that all kinds of foods are being preserved today by this
modern method.

survey of online shopping sites released this week.
