clutch는 흔히 무서움, 조바심에서 단단히 잡는 것, 잡고 싶은 것이나, 쥐고 싶은 것을 단단히 또는 발작적으로 grasp하는 것을 의미한다. 특히 자동사로 쓰이는 경우에는 grasp보다 잡는 데 성공하는 뜻이 덜 들어있고, 성공하는 뜻이 들어 있는 경우에만 꽉 쥐고 있는 뜻을 암시한다.
