A computer would have no clue as to what is in the box, but we assume immediately that it contains Tommy's new blocks.
We do so because we know that gifts often come in boxes and that opening the box is the natural thing to do.
More important, we assume that the two sentences are connected, whereas the computer sees no reason to connect the box with the blocks.
In other words, our interpretation of this simple text is based on common knowledge and expectations that are unavailable to the computer.

I was working as a short-order cook at two restaurants in the same neighborhood.
On a Saturday night, I was finishing up the dinner shift at one restaurant and hurrying to report to work at the second place.
But I was delayed because one table kept sending back an order of hash browns, insisting they were too cold.
I replaced them several times, but still the customers were dissatisfied.
When I was able to leave, I raced out the door and arrived at my second job.
A server immediately handed me my first order.
“Make sure these hash browns are hot,” she said,
“because these people just left a restaurant down the street that kept serving them cold ones."

The story of a drama is told by the characters.
The author communicates his ideas to the audience through the actors.
The actor does this through his actions and voice.
He must interpret the role to the audience, and in doing so he will put his unique personality on the character.
For this reason, the actor is the most important component in the drama.
Unless he speaks and moves in the manner in which the imaginary character whose part he is playing would do,
the story will not be clearly communicated to the audience.
The audience must depend solely on the actor since there can be no reasonable explanation by the author, as we find in a novel.
What the actor fails to transmit immediately is lost forever to the audience.

barbecue는 미국 속어로 '허물없이 만나는 모임'의 뜻으로도 쓰임.
It makes sense to use company letterhead to catch the eye of your reader
since it immediately establishes a reference point, especially if the name
of your company is impressive enough to warrant a second glance by someone
who would ordinarily throw your letter in the " circular file ".
