[比較] unique, singular, exceptional
unique와 singular는 동의어로 쓰일 수 있다. singular는 같은 종류의 것과는 다른 것을 뚜렷이 나타내서, 개성을 강조한다.
an event singular in history/ The taxi driver had lugged the parcel....for the woman, and then-proving himself a singular example of his species-had broken a ten dollar bill for her.
그러나 이 말은 보통 사람을 어리둥절하게 하고 호기심을 일으키게 하는 기이한 느낌을 준다. ‘비범한’(extraordinary), '현저한‘(remarkable)이란 뜻으로 더 흔히 쓰인다.
The child has a singular inability to comprehend the simplest instruction.(이상하게도 그 아이는 아무리 간단한 것이라도 가르쳐주는 것을 알아듣지 못한다.)
unique는 단 하나인 것뿐만 아니라 비할 데 없는 것을 말하지만, singular처럼 기이한 성격이라든가 어리둥절하게 만드는 성질을 암시하지는 않는다.
Personality always contains something unique.
exceptional 역시 예외를 만드는, 예외적인, 비상한 사례를 이루는 것이라는 뜻에서 unique의 동의어로 쓰일 수 있지만, 흔히 singular처럼 ‘보통이 아닌’(unusual), '비범한‘(extraordinary)의 뜻으로 사용된다.

In fact, the IMF's original motivations for instituting the
high interest rates have since proven to be wrong and
misguided, in that the high interest policies have hardly
prompted a foreign capital inflow, as was predicted. The
nearly all-time low prices of stocks and bonds, despite some

rates have had a marginal effect on the nation's ability to
lure foreign capital into the market. High interest rates

제110조 ①군사재판을 관할하기 위하여 특별법원으로서 군사법원을 둘 수 있다.
Article 110
(1) Courts-martial may be established as special courts to exercise jurisdiction over military trials.
②군사법원의 상고심은 대법원에서 관할한다.
(2) The Supreme Court shall have the final appellate jurisdiction over courts-martial.
③군사법원의 조직·권한 및 재판관의 자격은 법률로 정한다.
(3) The organization and authority of courts-martial, and the qualifications of their judges shall be determined by Act.
④비상계엄하의 군사재판은 군인·군무원의 범죄나 군사에 관한 간첩죄의 경우와 초병·초소·유독음식물공급·포로에 관한 죄중 법률이 정한 경우에 한하여 단심으로 할 수 있다. 다만, 사형을 선고한 경우에는 그러하지 아니하다.
(4) Military trials under an extraordinary martial law may not be appealed in case of crimes of soldiers and employees of the military; military espionage; and crimes as defined by Act in regard to sentinels, sentry posts, supply of harmful foods and beverages, and prisoners of war, except in the case of a death sentence.
