I lost my Master Card yesterday. Would you please put a hold on my account?
I am going out of town for a week. Please put a hold on my mail delivery. (or simply 'put a hold on my mail)
I lost my pay check my company sent me, so I am going to ask them to put a hold on that check so no one else can cash it. Maybe they'll have to reissue an another one.
I have been working three jobs last 5 years, and I am pretty burned out. I would like to put a hold on everything and go to Tahiti for 6 month and recharge.
As for your example '....put my account on suspension' <....because you said you'll be out of town in the first part, they'll understand what you're trying to say; however without THAT, the latter part of the sentence would sound like you did something wrong so you're on suspension pending investigation. >
For example, when a policeman shoots a person, he is automatically put on suspension with pay until further investigation.

I looked into it pretty hard to figure out what is different between them.
